"Beginning with the first spacecraft flyby of Mars over 40 years ago, NASA has embarked on a mission to understand the complex history and evolution of the
Red Planet. This legacy continues with the Phoenix Lander, the first of the Mars Scout Program, which successfully landed on the surface of Mars on May 25th
2008. With a suite of scientic instruments including a robotic digging arm, Phoenix was designed to study the history of water and habitability potential in
the ice-rich soil of the martian arctic. In this LASP public lecture from October 7, 2008, Dr. Mindi Searls gives an overview of this mission and preliminary findings."
